I've been to Slovakia three times, each for brief periods, teaching English. In the summer of 2005 I was offered an opportunity to work in the country for a full year. Having just completed a stressful year of doctoral studies in Canada, I was ready for a change. The prospect of teaching in Slovakia for a full year sounded exciting, so I pressed the "pause" button on my life in Canada and began the process of relocating to Slovakia. This is a diary of my Slovak experiences.
